For over 30 years, Alaska Native-owned and operated Kantishna Roadhouse has offered guests a unique opportunity to experience the backcountry of Denali National Park in a comfortable and intimate setting.
Located 90 miles inside Denali National Park, Kantishna Roadhouse is surrounded by extraordinary wilderness, rich history and the natural beauty of Interior Alaska. Here, you can slow down, explore and enjoy a side of Denali that few visitors have the opportunity to experience.
With the reopening of the Denali Park Road in 2027, a new chapter begins at Kantishna Roadhouse. Once again, guests can make the remarkable journey by road into the heart of the park, where adventure, relaxation and authentic Alaskan hospitality await.
A Unique Journey Into Denali
Your Kantishna experience begins long before you arrive at the Roadhouse.
Travel approximately 90 miles along the iconic Denali Park Road, taking in sweeping tundra, braided rivers, mountain passes and the vast wilderness that makes Denali National Park so extraordinary.
Along the way, keep watch for some of Denali’s most iconic wildlife, including grizzly bears, moose, caribou and Dall sheep. On clear days, you may also be treated to spectacular views of Denali and the Alaska Range.
Round-trip bus transportation between the Denali National Park entrance area and Kantishna Roadhouse is included with your stay, so you can sit back, enjoy the scenery and experience the journey into one of Alaska’s most remarkable places.
Comfortable Log Cabins
Upon arrival at Kantishna Roadhouse, you’ll settle into your private, spacious log cabin, comfortably appointed with rustic Alaskan style.
Each cabin features a private bathroom and comfortable beds with cozy down comforters and quilts, creating the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring.
We also offer two fully accessible cabins featuring ramps, accessible showers and spacious floor plans to better accommodate guests with limited mobility.
All Meals Included
All meals are prepared fresh on-site daily and are included with your stay. Our culinary team creates hearty, satisfying meals inspired by Alaska and the season, with some produce grown right here on the property.
Freshly baked breads and treats are a Roadhouse favorite, and our menus often feature wild-caught seafood sustainably sourced from Alaskan waters.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily, with fresh hot coffee and tea available throughout the day and evening. Select wine, Alaskan beer and liquor are available for purchase.
We are happy to accommodate many dietary needs and encourage guests to let us know about dietary restrictions when making their reservation.

Adventure at Kantishna can be as active—or as relaxing—as you’d like.
Our experienced Naturalist Guides will help you discover the surrounding wilderness through guided hikes, nature walks, mountain biking, fishing, gold panning and other activities. Guests can also explore independently and enjoy the quiet beauty surrounding the Roadhouse at their own pace.
Take an excursion to Wonder Lake, discover the natural and cultural history of the Kantishna area, or spend the day exploring trails surrounded by Denali’s incredible landscape.
Our Naturalist Guides also offer interpretive programs on a variety of topics, sharing stories and knowledge about Kantishna, Denali, wildlife, Alaska Native culture, the area’s gold-mining history and the surrounding environment.
Explore the Property & Our History
The story of Kantishna is woven into the history of Denali itself.
The original Roadhouse at Kantishna was built in 1918 and, over the years, served as a private residence, community gathering place, post office and informal lodging for those traveling through this remote corner of Alaska. Around a hot cup of coffee and a hearty meal, stories of life on the Alaskan trail were shared within its walls.
Today, guests can still see the original Roadhouse and discover remnants of Kantishna’s fascinating past throughout the property.
Over generations, Kantishna Roadhouse has evolved from its gold-rush-era roots into a comfortable wilderness lodge while maintaining the spirit, history and connection to the land that make this place so special.
In 2027, the road to Kantishna opens once again. We invite you to follow it all the way to the heart of Denali.
