Suggested Itineraries for Your 2027 Kantishna Adventure
With the reopening of the Denali Park Road in 2027, the journey to Kantishna Roadhouse is once again part of the adventure. Guests will travel approximately 90 miles into Denali National Park by bus, with round-trip transportation between the Denali National Park entrance area and Kantishna Roadhouse included with their stay.
We recommend allowing time before and after your Kantishna stay to explore more of Interior Alaska and to provide flexibility in your travel schedule.
Suggested Itinerary Starting and Ending in FAIRBANKS
Fly into Fairbanks International Airport.
Overnight for one or more nights at a local Fairbanks hotel. If time allows, we recommend exploring Fairbanks with a cruise aboard the Riverboat Discovery, a visit to the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center, or a stop at the University of Alaska Museum of the North.
Travel from Fairbanks to Denali by one of the following:
- Rental Car – Enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 125 miles (2.5 hours) from Fairbanks to the Denali National Park entrance area along the Parks Highway.
- Alaska Railroad – Take a scenic train ride from Fairbanks to Denali. Visit alaskarailroad.com for schedules and reservations.
- Shuttle or Motorcoach – Seasonal transportation options are available between Fairbanks and Denali. We recommend confirming current schedules and availability when planning your trip.
Depending on your travel schedule, overnight at a Denali-area hotel or connect with your pre-arranged Kantishna Roadhouse bus transportation into Denali National Park.
Your journey to Kantishna takes you approximately 90 miles along the Denali Park Road, offering incredible views of the park’s mountains, rivers, tundra and wildlife along the way.
Enjoy your stay at Kantishna Roadhouse, with a 2-night minimum and flexible daily arrivals and departures throughout our season.
On your departure day, travel by bus from Kantishna Roadhouse back to the Denali National Park entrance area. From there, you may:
- Overnight at a Denali-area hotel.
- Drive your rental car back to Fairbanks.
- Take the Alaska Railroad back to Fairbanks.
- Continue exploring Alaska as part of a longer itinerary.
Suggested Itinerary Starting and Ending in ANCHORAGE
Fly into Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
Overnight for one or more nights at a local Anchorage hotel. If time allows, we recommend visiting the Alaska Native Heritage Center and exploring some of Anchorage’s local attractions.
Travel from Anchorage to Denali by one of the following:
Rental Car – Enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 245 miles (4.5–5 hours) from Anchorage to the Denali National Park entrance area along the Parks Highway.
Alaska Railroad – Take a scenic train ride from Anchorage to Denali. Visit alaskarailroad.com for schedules and reservations.
Park Connection Motorcoach – Seasonal motorcoach service is available between Anchorage and Denali. Visit alaskacoach.com for schedules and reservations.

When planning your 2027 itinerary, we recommend allowing plenty of time between your transportation connections. Travel along the Denali Park Road can be affected by weather, wildlife, road conditions and other circumstances within the park.
